Hey Tourism & Hospitality Professionals, Where Are Your LGBT Travelers Now?

OK, so you're a traveler, LGBT or otherwise.  You've decided you want to go to St. Petersburg, Florida on vacation.  So now what?  What do you do?  Where do you go in your research and what resources do you use in order to plan your vacation?  Next step... so OK, now you're there... you've landed and you've taken a taxi or Uber to your hotel.  So again, now what?  You're hungry, but first you want to meet up with your friends for a cocktail.  What do you do?  How do you as an LGBT traveler determine where you want to go for that drink, your dinner and then out that evening with your friends?  Are you bringing a trusted FunMap, Damron or Spartacus Guide in your pocket?  Are you using specific LGBT travel websites, or perhaps their mobile website or an LGBT travel app to plan your evening?  Or perhaps are you simply Googling "gay bar" or better yet, simply "wine bar" or "best happy hour" and letting your phone do all the work, compiling the closest bars and restaurants based on your location, sifting through the various Yelp and TripAdvisor reviews at your fingertips. Or in 2017, will you be chatting via Facebook Messenger, iPhone's iMessage or the new Google Allo messaging app, and letting the new AI chat bots begin to steer you in the right direction?  Or crazier yet, are you getting advice while chatting on Grindr, Hornet or Scruff?  The truth is there are going to be a wide variety of answers to these questions, but the trends fleshed out from these various answers will help you and your business in understanding the future of LGBT directories, LGBT maps and LGBT media, including where it's going and how you as a tourism & hospitality company can be present and relevant in these ever-evolving environments.

The #ILoveGay Video Challenge:
Here's an opportunity for you, the LGBT vlogger, to put yourself even more prominently on the map of the travel, tourism & hospitality business community as they seek to better understand how to navigate the LGBT New Media landscape as it is today.  The challenge is this - create a video using the above text as a basic script outline.  You can either use the script, edit it to better match your voice, or use it as an outline for how you would travel (i.e., I use TripAdvisor to find gay friendly hotels, or I use GayCities to find local gay pubs).

Another suggestion would be to use the script and interject it with interviews from other LGBT travelers you know, highlighting how they find LGBT travel services.

Post your video on the platform of your choice and make sure to let us know how to find it.  Posting on Twitter and using #ILoveGay is all you would need to do, but you can also connect it up to one of our Twitter profiles as well, such as @ILoveLGBTTravel. If you're not posting it on Twitter, simply make sure we can find it on either Facebook or Instagram.  We will be reviewing all videos and selecting just one, paying $1,000 for the exclusive right to use the video (with full credit given to you) in our marketing efforts.

The submission deadline is October 31, 2017, with our decision being made at 11 am Eastern Standard Time on November 1, 2017.
