Post WorldPride2017 Rest & Relaxation in Sitges

So what does one do after a whirlwind of a week in Madrid for World Pride 2017?  Well, for our group, a quick flight to Barcelona and a quick train ride to Sitges was just what the doctor ordered!


What a great town... it's reminiscent of so many Mediterranean seaside villages from Spain to Italy, with a hotels and a seaside promenade lined with open air restaurants serving all varieties of Mediterranean culinary delights!

What's different about Sitges is that it's become such a gay mecca over the years... during the day, everyone seems to flock to the gay beach just south of the center of town.  Après-beach, it's all about the happy hour cocktails before dinner begins (around 9:30 or 10:00, of course).  Just beside the main plaza near the center of town is a small street lined with restaurants, complete with drag queens and full of gay men.

After dinner, one only has to walk a few doors down to find one of more than a dozen gay bars in that small, central area.  These bars have it all, ranging from strip shows to bear bars to dance clubs.  Each has it's own, unique backroom and the scene stays busy until at least 4 am.  Walking home from the bars at this time is an adventure unto itself!

We were able to find some hidden gems slightly off the beaten path, including small bakeries with incredible Catalan pastries and coffee, as well as a restaurant that is hands down our favorite in Sitges - El Racó De Can Traver.  It's a family-style, small restaurant with an owner and staff who all ensure you've had the best Catalan culinary experience anywhere in the region!

We spent our last evening dining on the promenade, right up against the iconic, historic church and small fort marking the town's prominence and history in the region.  Perusing the small, winding streets at night was a great way to end the trip!
